Chocolate & Ancho Chile Shortbread

Our Chocolate & Ancho Chile shortbread is a delicious tribute to Mexico's beloved Mole. Inspired by the ancient roots of xocolatl (the Aztec term for chocolate), this cookie combines our Fairtrade chocolate with smoky ancho chile, sweet cinnamon, and vanilla for a flavor-packed delight.

Each bag contains approximately 15 cookies.

A wonderfully tasty treat!

Happy to have found these divine cookies at our local farmer’s market! I especially enjoy them with my chai.

Coffee’s new favorite cookie

There’s something magical about the Chocolate and Ancho chile cookies that defies expectation. When you put one in your mouth, the subtle sweetness and subdued spice give a gentle snap. By themselves, they’re tasty and low key…the spice of the chile reaches you, but slowly and quietly. Its enjoyable and perfectly pleasant. It’s only when you take a drink of hot coffee with the cookie already in your mouth that the magic really happens. The heat of the coffee melts the fats in the cookie, releasing the sweetness and spice in a rush. It’s like a magic trick where the magician shows you a flower and then turns it into fireworks. It’s almost hard to believe it’s the same cookie you just ate.

The whole experience was such a surprise the first time I tried it, I went online and ordered three more bags.

The same is also true with some of their other flavors, and their own complimentary drinks. Having a rich authentic chai with the Talkback Cumin and Green Chili is a similar experience (though this flavor is also good crumbled up on a royal nut Kulfi I got at a local farmer’s market), and the Sichuan peanut flavor somehow perfectly paired when crumbled up on some DanDan noodles.

I’d highly recommend grabbing a bag, sitting down with your favorite cup of coffee, and then tasting the magic as it rushes through your mouth with every sip. I drink mine with a simple soy latte, but you do you :)

A Chocolate Kick

My new favorite treat. Mat got it right with all three flavors but the Mexican Chocolate spicy shortbread has a kick that hits you after a few bites. Love them- totally addictive.

Refreshingly Different, Tasty and Vibrant

I love Shortbread Cookies. I also love Mexican Mole. The idea of mixing these two flavors is brilliant! The shortbread is perfect, not overly sweet, but still with the deep richness that appeals to true shortbread fans. I can taste the buttery goodness. Combining the shortbread with deep dark Mexican chocolate with the sharpness of Ancho Chile satisfied my craving for the perfect morsel that would go with any refreshment like tea, coffee, wine, even beer and mixed drinks. It fits in on a charcuterie platter or as an amuse bouche on its own. I love these cookies!
