Our Chocolate & Ancho Chile shortbread is a delicious tribute to Mexico's beloved Mole. Inspired by the ancient roots of xocolatl (the Aztec term for chocolate), this cookie combines our Fairtrade chocolate with smoky ancho chile, sweet cinnamon, and vanilla for a flavor-packed delight.

Each bag contains approximately 15 cookies.

The chocolate and ancho chile cookie has a rich and mature chocolate flavor, not too sweet and well balanced. The spice is more of a caged heat that doesn't accumulate and provides a pleasant complexity to the flavor of the cookie. Overall, this is a very munchable snack.

An Existential Crisis of Butter, Flour, and Magic

When I pop a Talkback Chocolate & Ancho Chile Spicy Shortbread in my mouth, I'm hit with two waves of overwhelming emotions. First, I’m filled with existential dread and sorrow. Because as the buttery bread crumbles in my mouth, and the mole chocolate titillates my tongue, I realize that there are millions of shortbread lovers in the world who have no idea what shortbread can truly be. I see across vast oceans and snowy mountain peaks, to friends laughing together and enjoying their shortbread treats, and I’m filled with heartache as what they’re eating is in fact dryer lint mixed with failed ambition by comparison.

But then the second wave hits, and I think, “should I buy a boat? Maybe I should call my mother? I should run outside and help that senior cross the road!” What I’m saying is, I’m filled with hope of a better future. A brighter future. A future that doesn’t have to be filled with faking that your friend’s homemade shortbread, which they insist on bringing to every party, is barely passingly edible! Talkback Spicy Shortbread reminds me that there are new trails to blaze! There are new flavors with which to enrich our lives! There is a brighter future – and it starts with popping one of these (probably illegally) delicious treats in your mouth, and saying, “I’m done with mediocre shortbread, it’s time to Talkback!”
